Who we are

Voluntary Action Camden (VAC) is a small charity based in Camden, London.  Since 1907 VAC has supported the voluntary and community sector in the London Borough of Camden. We do this by sharing information, fostering collaboration and providing practical expertise to both established and new voluntary and community organisations. We serve as a connection between the sector and decision-making bodies like the local Council and funders and work to promote a vibrant local community and the amazing work community groups are doing in Camden.

Our website is built using WordPress and a number of third-party plugins to extend functionality.

 

About the position

We are looking for a freelance consultant who can help the organisation with technical troubleshooting and routine maintenance jobs. This will be on an ad-hoc basis and would probably require 1-3 days/month, depending on need. This will vary from month-month. Some jobs will form part of general routine maintenance and will need to be done on a weekly- monthly basis; other jobs are more ad-hoc and requested as and when needed. The work is to be payable by invoice, based on an hourly or daily rate basis, and submission of a timesheet outlining completed / outstanding tasks.

 

About the consultant

We are looking for someone with a solid background of providing expert technical assistance on WordPress, who, ideally, is familiar working with charities. Typical tasks might include:

  • Maintenance – WordPress, Theme, Plugin updates; managing staging and production sites
  • Resolving search engine visibility setting issues
  • Resolving 404 errors
  • Domain management
  • Back up management
  • User management and MFA
  • Troubleshooting technical issues as instructed
  • Support to set up or edit pages with Elementor. Assistance with posts and post categories as needed.
  • Understanding site architecture to assist with user queries as needed.
  • Other technical or maintenance tasks as required.

Community Links Volunteers

Community Links Volunteers support social prescribing by:

  • Talking to residents in GP practices and other community settings and signposting to community-based activities
  • Promoting healthy activities and lifestyle
  • Providing ‘chat and link’ support to residents who need more time to connect with social and community activity, or to residents waiting for other health services
  • Helping out as Covid Test Buddies and Vaccine Centre Stewards, and joining up as Camden Health Champions to promote other local initiatives

As a Community Links Volunteer you will receive training and support to develop your knowledge and skills. You will gain valuable insights into the changing health environment, and experience that can help professional development or put your existing skills to great use! Many of our volunteers have progressed into health-related  training and employment.
