Better Climate
VAC is keen to support voluntary and community groups in Camden to address issues related to climate change. Much of our work in this area is shaped by our involvement with Camden’s multi-sector “Climate Change Alliance”. VAC is an active member of the Alliance’s Advisory Board. We have also recently been appointed to administer the new Camden Communities Green Fund (launched September 2010).
Camden Communities Green Fund
Camden Communities Green Fund (CCGF) was created following Camden’s first Green Summit in July 2010. At the Summit, Camden residents, community groups and organisations shared ideas to help define a vision for a low carbon Camden, and now £50,000 is available to help communities take action to deliver environmental sustainability projects. The deadline for applications is Friday 5 November. Click here for more information, including details of surgery sessions to support groups wishing to apply, guidance notes for applicants, and the application form.
Camden Climate Change Alliance
The alliance has been formed by Camden Council and organisations in Camden that are committed to reducing their carbon dioxide emissions and tackling climate change. These organisations have made a public Climate Commitment, are of all sizes and from all sectors, and are working together to make a bigger difference in reducing their carbon dioxide (C02) emissions than they could otherwise do alone.
All member organisations will contribute to a joint carbon emissions reduction target of 10% by 2012. Membership of the Alliance is open to any Camden-based organisation. It is free, and no fees are charged for Alliance events and services. To find out more, visit the Alliance website at http://www.betterclimateforcamden.org
Creating ‘Carbon Confident’ Organisations
For whichever reason your organisation wants or needs to cut its carbon emissions, it can be difficult to know where or how to start. Carbon management is a new challenge requiring technical, environmental, and leadership skills. It can be confusing, especially for smaller organisations who may not have in-house environmental expertise. However, carbon management is painless if you know how and with training and support your organisation could see measurable reductions within months.
