VAC Announces New FREE Mental Health Training
Please note that our training is for paid staff and volunteers from Camden based voluntary organisations and community groups.

Young Men & Mental Health
Wednesday 22 October, 10am - 1pm
A workshop, run by PCT psychologists, for frontline staff working with young men aged 16-25. The aims of this workshop are:
- To help increase your understanding of how mental health issues affect the young men you work with in your organisation.
- To increase your awareness and knowledge of signs and symptoms of mental health problems in young men.
- To provide information of local and national services that offer support and advice to young men.
- To help you think about how you might approach a young man you’re working with if you had concerns about their mental health.
Mental Illness & Faith
Tuesday 4 November OR Monday 15 December, 10am - 4pm
By the end of the session learners will have discussed and have a greater understanding of the way mental illness is viewed in different cultures and faiths and how to begin applying this to their work.

Breaking the Cycle: The Effect of Depression & Trauma on Children & Their Families
Thursday 6 November, 9.30am - 1pm
Facilitators: Louise Emanuel (Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist) & Jan Eaton (Chartered Clinical Psychologist), both from the Tavistock Clinic
In this session the facilitators will address the importance of emotional well-being for children and their parents, and how trauma and depression can impact on all the family, interfering with children's emotional, social and educational development. Clinical vignettes will be used to illustrate how workers might recognise and address pscyhological and behavioural problems in children and delegates are encouraged to bring cases of families they are working with for discussion.
Areas covered will include:
- Early recognition and intervention for families affected by trauma
- The effect of parental mental health difficulties on children
- Challenging and disruptive behaviour in young children & adolescents
- The emotional impact of this work on professionals involved
Understanding Mental Illness: A Basic Introduction
Wednesday 26 November, 2pm - 5pm
By the end of the session learners will:
- Understand some of the causes & treatments of mental illness
- Understand some of the symptoms of different mental illnesses
- Have explored the issue of stigma and mental illness
FREE In-House Training for BME groups
VAC can provide FREE in-house "Introduction to Mental Illness" training to some Camden based voluntary organisations or community groups whose main focus is working with Black minority ethnic or refugee (BMER) communities. "In-house" means we will come to your organisation and tailor the training to your needs. To find out if you organisation is eligible for free in-house sessions please call us.
