NCVO Guide to Recruiting Trustees

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) have developed a pack to help voluntary and community organisations find, recruit, induct and keep trustees.  They have recognised that trustee recruitment can be particularly challenging for small organisations with limited resources, and the pack is designed with such organisations in mind.  Visit http://www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/trusteerecruitmentforsmallorganisations.

LVSC Guide to Trustees’ HR Responsibilities

For some years London Voluntary Service Council have run an employment support project called PEACe (Personnel Employment Advice and Conciliation Service).  Based on their learning about the issues facing small Black, Minority Ethnic and Refugee organisations they have developed a handy guide for trustees that offers useful general guidance for small voluntary organisations about their responsibilities as an employer.  The “Essential Employment Menu” is available to download from the LVSC website – visit www.lvsc.org.uk and search for the PEACe page to download a copy.  One of the great things about the guide is that it is available to small groups (of 7 or less employees) in different community languages, including Somali, French, Arabic and Turkish.  There have been some changes in the law since the guide was produced, but it is still a very useful resource.

Trustee Works Resources for Trustees

The TrusteeWorks website is another great place to find resources and briefings on how to recruit and retain good trustees, and on the roles and responsibilities of trustees in relation to managing and supporting staff.  Visit www.reachskills.org.uk/trusteeworks for more information.
